Radius Around Point

You can use this tool to find the radius around a point on the map. First type in the radius required (in kilometers) and then click on the map at the centre of where you wish the circle to appear. You can then create as many radii as you wish.

Is there a way to plot a radius in Miles?
By Shane on 18/04/2008

Great Tool! It would be great, if you could include to set a base point such as a city
By grupie001 on 17/04/2008

Can you add functionality to overlap the circles. Thakn you.
On 09/04/2008

Never mind, it appears to be a Firefox incompatibility. Works fine in IE.

Since the latest revision, my 106 km circle is not showing up at all and the fill color only shows up for a few "zoom-outs" but then disappears.
By k on 02/04/2008

Also, clicking on the center button of the pan arrows (up/north, down/south, left/west, right/east) could center on the radius point & "Zoom to Fit Map", not zoom out to world map.

This is great! Entering an address for the Radius to center on would be a great addition; if it is not possible, this is still a great tool.
By HolmesAt221b on 01/04/2008

Just found out it does it already - sorry!

Hi, This is great! How about the option to add more than one radius? Sounds an odd request but then it would be a great tool for working out where to meet up with friends and family. Thanks, Claire
By Claire T on 15/03/2008

David, yes those are good ideas. I will try to get them implemented when I find time. Cheers

Two questions and a suggestion 1.Could you put a lat/long input box to specify a point? 2.Is it possible to place a second point within the circumfrence of a first without deleting the first? Suggestion: a Mile to Km dialogue box in the setting area. A great tool, with loads of uses.
By David Ferguson on 07/03/2008

I cannot get the circle to show up
On 28/02/2008

Ryan, you should be able to plot more than one radius on the same map now. I notice that the performace drops when you load it up with plently of them :-(
By Free Map Tools on 26/02/2008

Linda, as far as I know a print screen is all that can be used to get output. I would suspect copyright issues put a restriction on saving or printing features. If anyone has any other suggestions then please get in touch.

Great tool. Would be great if could print it. Very frustrating to get just what you want and not be able to print or save

Allow more than one point with a radius to create a [short of] Venn diagram
By Ryan on 25/02/2008

Cool. How about a KM/Miles conversion. Or plot an area based on driving distances from a point? For instance, plot the boundary of all drives within 100 miles of Los Angeles?

Is there a way to copy the map to have as a jpeg or other picture file?

Prining?
On 01/02/2008

I can't get the map to draw a radius.
On 21/01/2008

Great tool! Would be great if there was a way of actually saving the map and add circles automatically through a database to show covered areas, possibly even as a charge for commercial use.
On 16/01/2008

Doesn't render the circle consistently. Once a circle is drawn, clearing or changing the diameter means no new circles get drawn. Reloading doesn't fix it reliably. Firefox 2.0.0.10 on Win2K

Great website - Would be even better if I could print the map!! Would you let me know how to do this
On 27/11/2007

If it's possible, an option to save a map point for use with different radii would be quite useful.
On 17/11/2007

maybe consider adding a miles (imperial) as well as kilometers (metric) option on the radius

Peter, we are currently having issues trying to achieve consistent performance across Firefox and Internet Explorer. As a result the output of this tool is not as good as it could be. Using http://www.freemaptools.com/how-far-is-it-between.htm the distance measured is 1244km so it looks like 1300km is a more accurate measurement. Thanks your comments!
By Free Map Tools on 14/10/2007

I was having a look at a few programs to plan a route from Europe to the US. http://www.daftlogic.com/projects-google-maps-distance-calculator.htm allows you to mark two points on the globe, and then uses the great circle route formula to calculate the distance. According to this program, the distance between Reykjavik (Iceland) and Narsarsuaq (Greenland) is about 1300 km. However, with your program, a radius of 2000km around Reykjavik comes nowhere near the south tip of Greenland. That is quite a difference. A quick check in an atlas leads me to believe that 1300km is closer to the mark. Could you tell me what is the truth? Thanks very much.

Why is the radius eliptical and not circular?
On 11/10/2007

James, yes this is an known issue and we will look at it.
By Free Map Tools on 09/10/2007

Great page, but when using firefox on fedora and mac osx we are having problems. the radius doesn't appear when we place a marker. We have tried several times with intermittent results!
By james labocki on 07/10/2007

Clive, thanks for the ideas. Some of them have been implemented.
By Free Map Tools on 26/09/2007

Great tool as it is however some suggestions: allow user to pick a colour for a radius annotate place (eg London) annotate radius (eg 2000km) allow printer friendly map (if allowed) clive {a-t} justs.info
