Ok...awesome tool...here is how you can save...1.ctrl/printscreen 2. open Paint under accessories (this is for windows...) 3. click file from drop down menu and select "new"4. Click "EDIT" from drop down menu and select paste. When you do that, as long as you had your map on screen...the whole entire screen will pop up. Then go to the file tab again and SAVE (recommend saving as JPEG or BMP)make sure to save before you edit. Crop to get all tool bars off...I just did this...it worked great!
By Heather H...Alabama on 01/07/2009

AWESOME! Thanks for making and updating/improving this tool. For printing: File tab on browser > Print Preview > Print page 1 and however many copies. Don't just hit print on the toolbar--you'll get over a dozen pages.
By Gabe on 01/07/2009

I love this website and am so glad to have found it. I would like to see a print capability as well.
On 30/06/2009

Very useful and works well. Any way this can be printed?
By Tj on 26/06/2009

love it, but I cannot print a street map of the area within the radius that I want. as you zoom in the map does not widen to show the whole area in detail so you can print the full area. Is there anyway at all that I can print a full radius map to street name detail.
By Sue Daniells on 17/06/2009

Great tool. Any chance the distance could 'follow' a road or rail track.
By Rym on 16/06/2009

Thanks for providing this radius map online. It might enable me to move to my future home site.
By Cannonball64 on 13/06/2009

Kinda useful and actually just what I'm looking for BUT very buggy. "Hit or miss" as they say...
On 12/06/2009

I love this tool. However, I was disappointed when I discovered that after refining my radii that I could not save the data. The tool would be much more beneficial if data could be saved or if the tool could be imported to "my google maps".
By Steve on 12/06/2009

Just fabulous! But wish we could at least save!

25 mile radius around Lansing MI
On 09/06/2009

I would agree, it would be very helpful to be able to get a listing with all of the cities/towns within the radius.
On 07/06/2009

I would love to be able to get a list of all the cities and towns withing the selected circle.
By MRF on 03/06/2009

can we change the radius unit of measure to feet
By Rusty on 29/05/2009

Idea sounds interesting..but like others said, it's not working for me at all. I don't see any radius. :(
On 28/05/2009

dont know what im doing wrong but this is not working for me at all.
On 27/05/2009

A way to share the map with a link of some sort or an email option would be awesome. Otherwise, this is exactly what I've been looking for.
On 26/05/2009

Awesome tool. I love it. Would it be possible to make it so that you can link your results for others to click on? For example if I enter my address with the radius I specify and then just provide a link so that others simply click on with the results without having to enter anything?
By Derek on 22/05/2009

Great idea/tool Is there a way to produce a very large map? I am looking for a lot of small towns that do not show up at the size created.
By Michael N on 21/05/2009

Great tool. However, it would be nice to allow users to draw multiple radius on map so user can see where they overlap. I have a need for this so I can plot where 5 people live and find the best meeting point for our organization.

first time to check it out...terrific tool....will use next trip...thanks
By vic in san jose,ca on 17/05/2009

Very helpful and such a great toll to have. Thank you very much.
By Crina on 13/05/2009

As it stands now, it is drawing "as the crow flies" travel radiuses. But how about limiting it to road travel? ie: how far can you travel from this position - by car - in 1 hour? or perhaps within 100kms. it would not be a circle.
By roid on 11/05/2009

very cool and helpful - thanks
By Rick and family on 09/05/2009

This is great. Can you add markers to the map to identify numerous points within the radius?
By ED on 08/05/2009

Nice tool, Thanks. I think it would be nice to be able to adjust the circles once they are on the map by dragging them.
By Terry on 05/05/2009

By Chris Grimm on 30/04/2009

Chrashes Chrome, but runs well enough on IE. Also desire print/save options
By Joel on 30/04/2009

Great tool! But like others have said, it would be great if the map, with radii, could be linked to and sent to others. Thanks!
On 27/04/2009

Nice tool for planning. To save or print, use your Print Screen function and then paste it to another application (MS Word or MS Paint). Print from that application. If you want to edit the Print Screen, then use an application such as MS Paint. Not as easy as pressing a Print button but an opportunity for people to learn how to use more of the functions on the computer rather than just 'point and click'. If people learn how to actually use some of the power already on the computer, then just think how creative they might become!
By Steve on 26/04/2009

Very easy to use!!! Just the map should show bigger on the screen like mapquest and be able to prit out or email.
On 25/04/2009

itis great.. can integrate it in my web
On 23/04/2009

Great tool! Works great and is very easy to use. One idea I have is to be able to e-mail the map or save it. When I do this, it reverts to it's original state. Otherwise, very very helpful.

By PS on 14/04/2009

I googled & found out how to get this map into Microsoft Works. The answer came from user Flag N, (I can't take credit), on yahoo answers & it worked perfectly! ""Open Word, Google Maps, and MS Paint. While on your map, press the Print Screen button on your keyboard. It may appear as PrntScrn. Then go to Paint, and press Ctrl V. Then use the rectangle select tool in Paint to select the map. Press Ctrl C. Then go to Word, and press Ctrl V."" The directions are for Word, but it worked in Works for me. In Paint, the rectangle select tool is the top rectangle with little dots around it. I love this website! ThankYou, ThankYou, ThankYou!

On 30/03/2009

Finally got the circle to appear, unable to print.
On 30/03/2009

Good - but could be more clear with instructions and/or have a tool bar. I printed one radius map of 300 miles and it came with marked interstates and highways. I was never able to duplicate it or figure out if there was a toolbar that had "interstates & highways" on it. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest rating, I would rate this site a 7.5.

adam, good idea re: the URL. We will put it on the to-do list
By Free Map Tools on 21/03/2009

This is just what I wanted, thank you. Two suggestions. 1) When printing, allow us to print only the map, perhaps with a banner ad, full page. 2) Encode the lookup in a URL, either in the browser's location bar, or display a URL we can copy & paste on the page. Then we could email the URL to someone else, they click the link, and they see the same page we do with the same radius drawn that is interactive & they can zoom & pan around. Much better than printing a PDF. This is really cool, thanks so much!
By adam on 20/03/2009

And to think, this is free. You should put a button on this site that allows users to make a donation. I would gladly pay a few bucks to use this, but thank you VERY much for making it free!

This tools is excellent. Perfect for a band routing a tour, needing to find a viable market between two confirmed dates. As Lcpl Levin USMC said, the only thing that would push this tool over the top is a drive time radius.

To Thwart the greedy people who dont want you to print simply: Load 1 page of paper in your printer.-->hit "cntrl-P" to print. Once the single page has printed the map simply cancel the print job when prompted for more paper!! lol Down with the man. Everything I just siad was a lie and fantasy.

On 02/01/2009

Extremely beneficial tool. Would really appreciate the ability to print so that it can be posted on a bulletin board in my office. Soldiers here are allowed to travel up to 250 miles from post without a pass, and a visual would leave no doubt in their minds as to where they may travel to.

On 10/12/2008

Hmm.... I mgiht have found a mistake here. Shouldnt the radius circle get wider the more you go to the north, not narrower? I may be missing something here, but if you draw a 2000 mile circles around Iqaluit, shouldnt you be able to reach ALL of the top of the map (since the top of the map is the north pole) ?

I love you!!! I needed to research competitors located within a given quadrant of a 6 mi-wide circumference. Started driving and using my car's odometer but it got very difficult... Now with your tool, I can see visually the area I need to cover. Thank you!!!
By Jacqueline on 18/10/2008

Great tool, can't find one like it anywhere else on the web. Many thanks for creating it and having it available. Don't know why Google, Yahoo and Mapquest haven't added this functionality to their sites. Extremely useful. A little buggy depending what browser but I've been able to get it to work in IE, Multiple versions of Firefox and Safari. If it doesn't work for someone I suggest hitting refresh on your browser and starting over. Sometimes it seems to get stuck not working. Sometimes it will work, not work, work, etc, consecutively without refreshing.
By Frank on 06/10/2008

Many thanks for working on this. For other user's info: Placing decimal Lat and long in "place name" also works. Eg 51.53N 0.0W (London)
By David Ferguson on 03/10/2008

I can get a centerpoint but no radius is indicated on the map itself.
By Denis on 30/09/2008

Further to my query below, tried this without Firefox and success! However, I've drawn 4 radii on the same map, and the colours just overlay one another, so that the innermost circle is filled with the densest, brownest colour! Definitely want that Clear fill PLEASE!
By Anna on 29/09/2008

I can't get this to show any radius at all. Using Firefox - does this make a difference? Echo one of the earlier comments - I don't want any colour inside the radius. Why isn't there a "Clear" or "None" option?
On 29/09/2008

Sorry, I spoke too soon and promise this will be my last comment. When I printed my map (Google Style "Hybrid"), the radius circle (bold red) appeared perfectly and the area inside the circle was clearly visible, looking exactly the same as the area outside the circle, and not covered by a white "blob" (as on the original map). Thank you.
By Daniel on 24/09/2008

Another suggestion, if I may. Please consider addding a "clear" fill colour as an option. That way, the circle will delineate the radius from a given point, while the area within the circle will look the same as the map option (either Map, Satellite, Hybrid). This is a great tool, thank you very much!

By lizz on 21/09/2008

Very useful tool but it would be better if there was an option to enlarge the map area. Maybe it could open up in a new window at the full width and height of the browser. This would make onscreen viewing and printing much better.
By Dominic on 19/09/2008

I love this tool, however it would be great to be able to copy the map to insert into a report.

On 12/09/2008

This is an outstandig tool, however, there is one major flaw, that being the inability to input an address (or even just a city) with which to center the radius on.
On 09/09/2008

By Free Map Tools on 01/09/2008

The radius at 250 miles and 500 miles came out in the proper circular shape for me, but as soon as i increased the radius to 1000 miles around my point, the circle came out egg-shaped. Is there any way around this? Great tool otherwise.
By Donna on 21/08/2008

This is a great tool. Couldn't get Print-Screen to work, so I've been using Adobe Acrobat software (not the reader) to print the map as a PDF; then I can copy the map image to Clipboard and paste it into a Word document.

Great Tool! I haven't figured it all out yet, but would love to place 3 locations. (Hehe, I am mapping the radius around 3 family locations to illustrate that there are alternatives to making me drive 500 miles for the family vacation!) Thanks again, great tools
By Daisy L on 19/08/2008

I would like to copy and email the map with the radius circle but am not able to do so. I can't even copy it and put it into Word. How do I do this?
On 11/08/2008

Is it possible to do this radius for 'drive times' instead of distance in miles? For example, 30 minutes from Manchester???
On 29/07/2008

When I zoom out to try to see the whole circle, it disappears. Tried manually and with the zoom to fit and with different radii. XP using FF. Great tool otherwise.
By Brandon on 24/07/2008

Sorry about that. It should work now.
By Free Map Tools on 23/07/2008

is the radius site working properly, as i am unable to click on the map and draw a circle anymore. if there is a bug please fix as i use this site often and it is a great tool. thanks
On 23/07/2008

Um. I think I'm doing it wrong... Anyway, let me enter in the lat/long of the position because yeah... Clicking is not working
On 22/07/2008

Please make the map have a marger view for when printing it can fill the page. Also put the most used tool buttons directly next to the map, so I dont have to scroll each time as it becomes lengthy. Make it so radius's can overlap each other. Excellent piece of software otherwise, really good for research and hopefully precise, saves alot of time. cheers
By total anonimity on 22/07/2008

By k on 02/04/2008

Since the latest revision, my 106 km circle is not showing up at all and the fill color only shows up for a few "zoom-outs" but then disappears.
By k on 02/04/2008

Also, clicking on the center button of the pan arrows (up/north, down/south, left/west, right/east) could center on the radius point & "Zoom to Fit Map", not zoom out to world map.
By HolmesAt221b on 01/04/2008

This is great! Entering an address for the Radius to center on would be a great addition; if it is not possible, this is still a great tool.

Just found out it does it already - sorry!
On 15/03/2008

Ryan, you should be able to plot more than one radius on the same map now. I notice that the performace drops when you load it up with plently of them :-(
By Free Map Tools on 26/02/2008

Linda, as far as I know a print screen is all that can be used to get output. I would suspect copyright issues put a restriction on saving or printing features. If anyone has any other suggestions then please get in touch.

On 16/01/2008

Doesn't render the circle consistently. Once a circle is drawn, clearing or changing the diameter means no new circles get drawn. Reloading doesn't fix it reliably. Firefox 2.0.0.10 on Win2K
By Bill on 30/11/2007

maybe consider adding a miles (imperial) as well as kilometers (metric) option on the radius

Peter, we are currently having issues trying to achieve consistent performance across Firefox and Internet Explorer. As a result the output of this tool is not as good as it could be. Using http://www.freemaptools.com/how-far-is-it-between.htm the distance measured is 1244km so it looks like 1300km is a more accurate measurement. Thanks your comments!

I was having a look at a few programs to plan a route from Europe to the US. http://www.daftlogic.com/projects-google-maps-distance-calculator.htm allows you to mark two points on the globe, and then uses the great circle route formula to calculate the distance. According to this program, the distance between Reykjavik (Iceland) and Narsarsuaq (Greenland) is about 1300 km. However, with your program, a radius of 2000km around Reykjavik comes nowhere near the south tip of Greenland. That is quite a difference. A quick check in an atlas leads me to believe that 1300km is closer to the mark. Could you tell me what is the truth? Thanks very much.

Why is the radius eliptical and not circular?

James, yes this is an known issue and we will look at it.

Great page, but when using firefox on fedora and mac osx we are having problems. the radius doesn't appear when we place a marker. We have tried several times with intermittent results!

Clive, thanks for the ideas. Some of them have been implemented.

Great tool as it is however some suggestions: allow user to pick a colour for a radius annotate place (eg London) annotate radius (eg 2000km) allow printer friendly map (if allowed) clive {a-t} justs.info
