Radius Around Point

You can use this tool to find the radius around a point on the map. First type in the radius required in kilometers or miles and then click on the map at the center of where you wish the circle to appear. You can then create as many radii as you wish.

Once you have a radius on the map :

Instructions

  1. Type in a radius required in the text box above.
  2. [Zoom and Pan to find the required area on the map then click on the map to draw a circle] OR [Type a location into the text box and click Draw Radius]
  3. Click as many times as necessary to draw multiple circles.
  4. You can use the [Clear Map] button to erase all markers and radii and start again.

Use the "URL to last radius" text box to find a URL that will show the most recent radius on this page when opened in a web browser. This URL can be sent to anyone if you wish to forward it on.

Google Earth KML Output

You can now export your last radius to Google Earth for improved display and printing. You must have Google Earth installed (or another application capable of importing KML files). You need to have a radius displayed on the map before the output will work. Please report any bugs.

Currently, the KML will include:

  1. The same radius size and shape
  2. Transparency of 50% (white)

It will not include:

  1. Multiple radii
  2. Shading colour
  3. Line colour
  4. Line Thickness

These features may be added later depending on feedback.

Thank you so much for this amazing tool, it was EXACTLY what I was looking for for a display at my child's school about the relative distances of the planets using their school as the sun's central position. I do wish the print area could be made full page or something. I really wanted all 9 radii to show, so have had to do A LOT of printing, cutting, sizing and taping! But still, thanks for a wonderful, FREE site.

This is great! Very helpful and exactly what I was looking for. I'd like to be able to get more when I print though.
By BGE on 05/02/2010

I would like to see the zipcodes with the circle. That would be nice.
By Antonio on 05/02/2010

Would like to be able to delete the last circle or select which ones to delete, as it is, I have to start all over if it makes a mistake, or do I? Label options would also be a great addition.
On 02/02/2010

this is really a fantastic tool! can i export my map as a jpeg?
On 02/02/2010

You can print the map by right-clicking with your cursor NOT on the map itself. Then select page 1 only when the print screen comes up so you don't end up printing the entire document with the comments and all. Page 1 will show map only.

It would be nice if we could see Counties in the radius.
On 27/01/2010

thank you for this awesome tool!!
On 27/01/2010

It would be nice if I could draw a radius around the property bounderies not just one point on the property.
On 20/01/2010

it would also be a great improvement if we are able to actually embed the active google map with the overlay and not just the generated static image. also, would be nice if we are able to keep the same map style in the static image.

Just want to say thanks to whoever put this out for free. This is a really neat tool, and you deserve credit for it. GJ.

Is there a way to save the map into "My Maps" with Google?
On 13/01/2010

Could you add the ability to generate a radius from multiple locations, in order to highligh overlapping areas?
By Mike on 11/01/2010

It would be nice to see all of the zip codes in the radius.
On 04/01/2010

Would be nice to be be able to select individual items, schools, businesses, within radius. I can show schools in the area but I can't remove schools I don't want included. Great tool for drawing radii.
By SJ on 01/01/2010

Would be nice to be able to print the map...which is why most people will use this application.

Working in the Air Traffic Control Services I could use this to draw maps to show "Special Activities" inside the airspace. It would be nice if this site could handle nautical mile a well, and have the output saved to a KML file, or even an Excel file. It would also be nice if levels (layers) could be used. Keep up the good work.

Jason, How Far Can I Travel might be what you are looking for.

Very helpful. I would also like to see the option of showing the radius by street/highway. A 50 mile radius "as the crow flies" is one thing, but most people drive. It won't be the same.
By Jason on 17/12/2009

I cannot seem to get it to work properly with latitude and longitude coordinates (WGS84 Datum - in DDD MM.MMM format). The marker on the map is not anywhere near where the coordinates should be and no radius circle appears at all.
On 14/12/2009

This is Great!-Thanks for all your hard work and for including users in the development... Could you think of including "Street View", or liking to others that do that. Also Could you somehow allow for "Listing";Examplte: Creating Lists of all Cities in the Radius you generated, or somesuch. Thanks.

I am glad I found this. It's a big help. Some of the other comments are suggestions I agree with also: Ad removal;print map only. If you have to have ads, maybe move them to the edges of the page.Other map sites have their ads, configured so they are not part of the print map: Rand mcnally, google. An addition I would like to see: A simple compass rose showing N,NW,W,SW,S, etc. that could be button- activated, and made with thin lines radiating from your center point. 8 lines only, to avoid clutter, with off-on button.[Probably should call it something else;I'm American, but most Americans don't know what "compass rose" means. Thanks.

How do you print the map? How do you save it to send to others?
By Tina on 13/11/2009

Well- Lots of efford put into this But it non productive as nothing else can be done to it - ie printing just the map or transfer of use

Hi. Due to the nature of these advertisements, we are unable to identify the advertisement you talk about without further information. Could you send us a screen shot of the advertisement(s)? We will then take steps to prevent this from happening. This type of reaction to advertisements is something that we wish to avoid.
By Free Map Tools on 09/11/2009

PLEASE!! Can we have some advertising that does not embarrass us as parents and professionals. I would love to show my kids this tool and use this for my business, but the advertising is a bit disgusting. Then when you go to print, it has the same stuff on the page.
On 09/11/2009

Two points at once would be great, thanks for this tool!
